Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of a healthy weight for most people, and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
However, BMI is not a diagnostic tool!
For example, if a person has a high BMI; in order to determine if excess weight is a health risk, a healthcare provider would need to perform further assessments. These assessments might include skinfold thickness measurements, evaluations of diet, physical activity, family history, and other appropriate health screenings.
dearPHARMACIST does not just rely on BMI calculations alone to determine your health.
There are a number of factors that may contribute to a weight issue. The aim is to get you to a healthy weight and reduce your risk towards Type 2 diabetes, depression, cancers, heart disease and infertility.
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared.
This gives a guide to a healthy weight. BMI between 18.5 and 25 are considered as normal. However, dearPHARMACIST will measure other factors that put together a Bio-BMI check. This includes your waist:hip ratio, blood pressure and glucose reading.
Once a Bio-BMI check is done, dearPHARMACIST will go through your results and work out an action plan towards a healthy weight.
